Rabbi Yitzchak taught that “A ruler is not to be appointed unless the community is consulted.”

— Babylonian Talmud Berachot 55a

Northern Virginia needs leaders who will represent all of us, and who are accountable to the whole community. That’s why we vote, and why we take seriously Rabbi Yitzchak’s teaching that community input is essential for choosing who will lead our county.

And it’s why the JUFJ Campaign Fund was founded over a decade ago — to help elect leaders who will fight for our Jewish values, to advocate for issues that matter to the whole community, and to hold our representatives to the commitments they make.

In 2025, we are thrilled to endorse our first ever Virginia candidates!

The JUFJ Campaign Fund is proud to endorse

The JUFJ Campaign Fund endorses Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia

Abigail Spanberger for Governor

Abigail Spanberger is committed to building a Virginia that works for everyone. As a Congresswoman, she voted to expand economic opportunities for all families, and stood against extremist attacks on Black, brown, and queer Virginians. As a candidate, Spanberger has pledged to repeal Governor Youngkin’s disastrous Executive Order 47, which directs localities to collaborate with the brutal, authoritarian tactics of the masked ICE thugs being dispatched throughout our state. She believes in public education that treats all students fairly, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and she has voiced support for state constitutional amendments to protect our freedom to vote and our reproductive freedoms.

Spanberger does not align with all of the JUFJ Campaign Fund’s central values, particularly the sacred right of all workers to organize and advocate for themselves through forming unions. But her opponent, Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Seares, stands against everything our Jewish values teach us. She has made attacking transgender children a central plank of her campaign, and she refers to ICE, an agency whose purpose is to tear families apart and sow fear in our communities, as heroes. The choice for the next Governor of Virginia is clear.

The JUFJ Campaign Fund endorses Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia

Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor

Ghazala Hashmi, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, brings her own lifetime dedication to public service to the ticket. Hashmi was the first elected Muslim woman to the Virginia Senate, where she represented District 15. Hashmi wants all Virginians to have healthcare and safe housing, regardless of immigration status. She has campaigned on preventing gun violence, and on dismantling racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-LGBTQ bigotry, and other forms of hate.

The JUFJ Campaign Fund endorses Jay Jones for Attorney General of Virginia

Jay Jones for Attorney General

Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Attorney General, is committed to working for the people of Virginia. As a lifelong public servant, Jones has expanded access to abortion and other forms of reproductive freedom in the Virginia General Assembly, and fought to hold large corporations accountable as Assistant Attorney General in Washington, DC. Jones is also a Lutheran pastor who was deeply involved in serving the Southeast Baltimore community. His track record across several of the jurisdictions in which the JUFJ Campaign Fund operates demonstrates that he is closely aligned with the values that inspire our organizing.

The JUFJ Campaign Fund endorses Elizabeth Guzman for Delegate, Virginia District 22

Elizabeth Guzman for District 22 Delegate

Former Delegate Elizabeth Guzman is the person District 22 needs in the House of Delegates. An experienced legislator (she previously represented District 31), Guzman has made workers’ rights, childcare and paid family leave, police accountability, and reproductive freedom pillars of her campaign; all of these are issues that the JUFJ Campaign Fund community cares deeply about and has advocated for across our region. She has been endorsed by many of our union partners, as well as gun safety and LGBTQ+ organizations. Guzman is running to unseat Delegate Ian Lovejoy, who is running on promises to criminalize children through overpolicing in schools, demonize Salvadoran immigrants, block the creation of affordable housing, and assault reproductive freedom.
